Yesterday, (which is actually today while I’m typing it) Rick Sammon and Trey Ratcliff announced that they are declaring June 26th is International HDR Day.  I’m not sure how official this declaration actually may be, but I’m willing to take a few things on faith at this point.  Now that the announcement is out there, just what does this mean?

First, it means you don’t have much time. The 26th is this weekend.  The idea is that you go shoot some HDR photographs this week and upload them to the DPE Flickr Group.  Rick and Trey will pick the winning images and provide autographed copies of their HDR books.  The winners (two of them) will also receive a 20×24 print of their images.  Don’t worry, there are consolation prizes for everyone.  Specifically, those who enter will get a $50 gift card for Nations Photo Lab.  That’s incentive enough just to enter.  Check out the site (linked above) for more information, such as discount codes for Photomatix and Topaz software.

The image above is the Apollo Treasures display from the Apollo/Saturn V center at Kennedy Space Center.  From the KSC web site:

The Apollo Treasures Gallery showcases treasures from the Apollo moon missions, including Apollo 14 Commander Alan Shepard’s spacesuit along with a rare collection of spacesuits and other gear used by the Apollo moonwalkers to explore the lunar surface. Also on display is Apollo 16 astronaut John Young’s cuff check list with instructions on how to deploy the American flag on the moon and Apollo 13’s spacesuit repair kit and service module rescue book. The Treasures Gallery opened on July 16, 2009, in celebration of 40 years of Apollo.
