Per­son­ally, I think they look more cute than wretched. Per­haps that’s why it’s wise to be cau­tious in this place. You may think this was another photo taken at Star Wars Cel­e­bra­tion VI in Orlando, but that’s actu­ally last night in Las Vegas dur­ing the Pho­to­shop World Meetup at Eye­Candy Bar inside of Man­dalay Bay. Hey, I fig­ure a desert bar is a desert bar. They always attract some strange exotic char­ac­ters. You know the kind of folks at Pho­to­shop World — a few pho­tog­ra­phers, a drunken ven­dor in the back, the tri­pod police and a Russ­ian hooker won­der­ing why these guys only want to take her picture.

I kid. This was actu­ally taken on Tat­tooine. You can tell because the floor of the Mos Eis­ley Can­tina in no way resem­bles the typ­i­cal con­crete floor of the Orange County Con­ven­tion Cen­ter in Orlando, FL. It’s an opti­cal illu­sion if you think oth­er­wise. This is how things look in a galaxy far, far away. It wasn’t that long ago, either.

The biggest prob­lem with the Mos Eis­ley Can­tina has to be the fur­nish­ings. Look at those stools. Not even a back­rest. I’m OK with see­ing tiny tables in a bar. You just need enough space to hold your drink. How­ever, there’s noth­ing com­fort­able about those stools. I don’t care what species you are, that’s gotta hurt. Some big-​assed aliens are only going to get half a cheek on those things. I’ve been on rac­ing motor­cy­cles that had more com­fort­able seats than those stools. It’s a shanda!
