Unboxing the DJI Osmo Mobile 2
This is a brief video to show just what you get inside the box with your DJI Osmo Mobile 2 gimbal for iPhone and other smartphones.
The contents include:
- DJI Osmo Mobile 2 Gimbal
- Styrofoam protective cover/case
- USB to Mini USB charging cable
- Silica packet to absorb moisture
I was under the impression that this gimbal also cam with a base so you could easily allow it to stand on the bottom end without falling over. Apparently, that's an optional accessory at an extra cost.
However, it does have a thread mount on the bottom so you can easily attach it to a tripod.
If you're looking for a tripod, I recommend this Manfrotto Mini Tripod available at Amazon. That is an affiliate link, which means there is no extra cost to you, but I'll receive a small commission if you buy based upon my recommendation.
We also use this tripod with out Canon G7x Mark ii camera. It has a small bullhead to swivel the top and also acts as a comfortable grip when the legs close.
Reasons to Get the DJI Osmo Mobile 2
This is my first gimbal. Why did I get one now?
Honestly, the price is a major factor. At $129, it's affordable – less than half the price of the previous version at $299. The price change crossed the mental barrier from luxury to something more of a commodity.
After affordability, there are the improved results that a gimbal provides for your smart phone video. You can immediately see the benefits of smooth and fluid motion compared to trying to handhold your smart phone while taking video.
It eliminates the shakiness you get from handheld video, but also opens the door to more cinematic results. No you can easily tilt and pan with smooth movements. It's also much easier to zoom in and out of your videos using the joypad on the gimbal.
That may add a new dynamic to your videos, allowing you to easily walk forward while zooming in our out to use as an interesting effect.
I have a mild interest in time-lapse and hyper lapse videos, but held off because they're incredibly time consuming to create and post process. Now you can easily create and complete them on your smart phone using the DJI Mobile app. Just shoot and you have a finished file when you're done.
Is the DJI Osmo Mobile 2 Right for You?
Who should get the DJI Osmo Mobile 2 gimbal?
- People who want to get started in video without an elaborate investment
- Someone who needs a tool to flesh out video ideas before committing time and money for full production
- Families who want better home or travel videos
The DJI Osmo Mobile 2 gimbal puts smooth video within the reach of everyman. It's not going to replace a full cinematic rig for flawless motion. You may still seem some minor wobble if you walk while recording video.
On the other hand, it's an enormous improvement for the average person who want to record a high quality video experience. It's an inexpensive tool for amateur filmmakers, too.
